A 30-year-old man has been arrested after a fatal stabbing in East Vancouver.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says that officers responded to a 9-1-1 call on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 9 pm near East 57th Avenue and Prince Edward Street.

“Several heads-up witnesses provided detailed descriptions of the suspect and where he was last seen,” says Constable Jason Doucette, VPD Spokesperson. “Minutes later, police arrested the suspect a block from the crime scene.”

The victim, 34-year-old Damien Franklin Leung, was rushed to the hospital but later passed away.

While the investigation is in the early stages, VPD believes that the suspect and victim knew each other.

This is Vancouver’s 16th homicide of 2020.
