
Over a quarter century since it first launched, Modo is now marking its major milestone of reaching a carshare fleet size of 1,000 vehicles.
This week, the 1,000th car on the Modo fleet will be placed at the Deloitte Summit office tower at 410 West Georgia Street, in partnership with building owner and developer Westbank.

This particular vehicle will be a Hyundai IONIQ 5 battery-electric vehicle. It joins Modo’s wide range of vehicle options, such as hybrids, SUVs, trucks, minivans, and other battery-electric models.
Modo has a strategy to transition its fleet to zero-emission vehicles. Currently, the fleet consists of over 30% hybrid or battery-electric vehicles, with a goal of reaching a zero-emission fleet by 2030.
According to Modo, it is the first carsharing co-op in North America, and the first carshare in the English-speaking world.
“This is a proud, milestone day in the history of our member-owned co-operative. A long-standing practice of sustainable growth has defined our journey from an initial two cars in 1997 to 1,000 available to members today” said Patrick Nangle, CEO of Modo, in a statement.
According to the Vancouver-based co-op, it now serves over two dozen municipalities across British Columbia, and has a membership size of 30,000. As well, over 100 buildings across the province use Modo as its carshare service operator.
Modo is typically the carshare operator of choice for buildings seeking to provide its tenants and occupants with a carshare service.
Unlike Evo, which is a free-floating carshare service, Modo is a fixed-point, two-way station carshare service that requires users to pick up and return a vehicle at a designated station.
In contrast, Evo Car Share, owned and operated by BCAA, currently has roughly 2,300 vehicles, and it recently expanded into providing e-bike share services.
