Vancouver’s bike share program, Mobi by Shaw Go, has announced that it will be expanding further into Vancouver Eastside by this summer.

After receiving an “overwhelming number of requests,” the company announced that it will be adding 50 new bike share stations to the Commercial Drive, Mt. Pleasant, and Strathcona areas.

In addition, they will be adding 500 more bikes to the network of 1,500 already in use across 150 existing stations, covering an area from Waterfront up to 16th Avenue and from around Arbutus Street to around Main Street.

The company also announced that it will be discounting its full-year pass by $30, which allows users unlimited 30 minute rides.

Mobi’s eastward expansion was originally slated to begin as early as December 2017, but this most recent announcement says that the company will begin expanding this month and hopes to finish in time for the busy summer season.

Mobi reported that 2017 saw a 280% growth in usage over 2016, with 42,763 people using their service for a total of 550,501 rides, and hopes that these new stations will bring the large bike riding population of the Eastside into the bike share network.
