Megan Oldham has secured Canada’s second gold medal of the Milano Cortina Olympics.

The 24-year-old was looking to reach the podium in the women’s freeski big air final on Monday, and she delivered. Oldham kicked off the final with a bang, scoring an incredible 91.75 in her first run and followed that up with an excellent 89.00 on her second run.

That gave her an overall score of 180.75 to vault her to the top of the Olympic podium. She edged out China’s Eileen Ailing Gu (179.00) and Italian Flora Tabanelli (178.25).

This is Oldham’s second Olympic medal of the Milano Cortina Games after having won bronze in the women’s slopestyle event last week.

Oldham put herself in a great position heading into the final, having put up the best qualifying score (171.75) on Saturday. She was able to keep the momentum going, overcoming a short delay in the final to get herself to the top of the Olympic podium.

This marks quite an improvement for Parry Sound, Ontario native, as she narrowly missed a podium, finishing in fourth place during this same event back during the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. Her father said that the result crushed her, and now, four years later, she can put that disappointing result behind her as an Olympic champion.

Oldham wasn’t the only Canadian to compete in the big air final, with Naomi Urness finishing sixth.

This puts Canada’s total medal count up to 11 in Italy (two gold, four silver, and five bronze).
