Vancouver eatery named the best Japanese restaurant in North America
Following the news of Baan Lao being named the best restaurant in North America, another local spot has also received a pretty prestigious accolade.
Masayoshi, located in Vancouver, was named North America’s Best Japanese Cuisine Restaurant at the World Culinary Awards.

Masayoshi is a Michelin-starred restaurant located in Vancouver’s Fraserhood neighbourhood. Here, the team specializes in the art of omakase, where chef Masayoshi Baba’s serves hyper-seasonal and innovative creations.
“At Masayoshi in Vancouver, our omakase follows the seasons. We bring together Edomae-style sushi and British Columbia’s seafood, with each course prepared to highlight its natural flavour and texture. From seasonal appetizers to nigiri, the menu reflects Japanese craftsmanship and our home in the Pacific Northwest. At the sushi counter, guests can watch the care that goes into each course,” writes the restaurant.

Other Vancouver restaurants recognized at the World Culinary Awards include the aforementioned Baan Lao alongside Hawksworth, which won North America’s Best Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant 2026.
