Months after a man was apparently caught masturbating at a red light in Burnaby, charges have been laid in connection with the incident.

Charges were approved against a 59-year-old man for the apparent events that took place on Lougheed Highway in North Burnaby in May of this year.

Burnaby RCMP has identified Patrick Joseph Paul Pelletier of Port Moody as the suspect.

“This type of behaviour is not acceptable in our community,” said Corporal Andrew Coupe with Burnaby RCMP’s High-Risk Offender Unit in a statement.

“Thanks to the assistance of several partner agencies, our investigators were able to identify a suspect and gather additional evidence to support criminal charges.

“We would also like to thank the witness who reported this incident.”

Daily Hive reported that the witness in question was a 15-year-old on the bus. The vehicle pulled up next to a westbound 136 bus at a red light near Gaglardi Way.

Burnaby RCMP also shared pictures of the incident.

Daily Hive was sent the video by a concerned parent. “This guy stopped beside the bus my 15-year-old daughter was on,” the parent wrote. In the video, the suspect does not appear to be wearing pants as he performs an indecent act while staring.

Burnaby RCMP’s High-Risk Offender Unit conducted the investigation with assistance from other plainclothes units in the detachment.

Pelletier was charged with two counts of Indecent Act.
