A man has been taken to the hospital after a late-night shooting in Surrey’s Guildford area.

According to an emailed statement from the Surrey RCMP, the incident occurred at approximately 10:45 pm on Monday. Police received reports of “possible shots” heard from the area of Hawthorne Park.

As front line officers made their way to the park, they also received reports of a man located at a bus stop near the park, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The 25-year-old male was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Surrey RCMP’s General Investigation Unit has since taken conduct over the investigation and will remain in the area on Tuesday.

Police say that the victim of the shooting has so far been uncooperative with police.

“Further work is being done to determine the exact location of where this shooting occurred,” writes Corporal Elenore Sturko, Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer in a statement. “The victim in this incident has not been forthcoming with information to police.”

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
