Kitsilano, you’re in for a treat. New all-day dining concept “Juanita” is gearing up to open, and pretty soon at that.
Located at 1516 Yew Street, the eatery has taken over the space formerly occupied by shuttered jazz destination the Blue Martini Cafe, directly across the street from Nook and Local.

Juanita doesn’t just have an incredible location just steps away from Kits Beach, it also has an experienced team behind it, so we know it’s going to be good.
This new spot comes to us from the chef/owner of North Vancouver’s Lift Breakfast Bakery, Jane Young.
The restaurant is named after the nickname Young was affectionately given during her time working at Michelin 3-star restaurant El Bulli in the Catalan region of Spain. Jane closely translates to Juanita in Spanish.
During a phone call with Dished Vancouver, Juanita’s GM Jesse Johnson outlined the vision for the soon-to-be-open new concept.
The 3,000 sq ft space will offer indoor seating for 150 and patio seating for about 12 during non-COVID times. Johnson says they are aiming to have a patio expansion for the summer as well.
So what can diners expect from Juanita in terms of offerings? Well basically, everything: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a great drink program available seven days a week.
When it comes to breakfast and mid-morning eats, Johnson says patrons can expect an “exact replica” to the menu served over at Lift but peppered with some Southern European influence.
We’re told approachable, quality breakfast will be up for order daily, including all the housemade pastries, bread, and morning cocktails one could want.
For meals later in the day and dinner service, expect handmade pasta, traditional Spanish small plates, and entrees with influences from Southern France and Portugal to name just a few.
Johnson said the team can’t wait to “participate in the street and community of great restaurants,” and neither can we.
Juanita is tentatively slated to open sometime next month, we’ll keep you posted.
