IHIT investigating after "suspicious" death of injured Surrey woman

Jun 4 2020, 4:27 pm

An investigation has been launched after the death of an injured Surrey woman.

The Surrey RMCP says that they received a report of an injured woman on Tuesday. She was reportedly transported to the Surrey Memorial Hospital in medical distress just after 3 pm.

“Despite all efforts by medical professionals, the woman succumbed to her injuries,” writes Cpl. Elenore Sturko, Media Relations Officer with the Surrey RCMP.

Police say that while the cause and circumstances of the woman’s injuries and death are still under investigation, the incident is being treated as suspicious.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since been activated and will be investigating with the Surrey RCMP.

“Based on the investigative theory in this initial phase, this does not appear to be a random act,” Sturko said.

Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to call the IHIT information one at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
