What started as a small to-go restaurant specializing in Filipino eats is now opening its first brick-and-mortar dine-in concept in Vancouver.

Bigboy’s Chigs To-Go broke the news on Instagram that it will be opening a new concept called Haliná.

“What started as a small to-go restaurant and catering business, known as Bigboy’s Chigs To-Go, run by four friends with a shared love for Filipino cuisine, quickly grew into something much bigger,” said the restaurant on its website.

Bigboy’s Chigs is known best for serving a variety of Filipino favourites, including lumpia, longganisa, and pork sisig.

The team decided to open this new concept because the restaurant is passionate about creating a space that celebrates Filipino cuisine while being inclusive to everyone.

“With every dish made from our hearts, we’ve created a place where food lovers from all walks of life can gather, share, and savour the unique fusion of cultures. Here, Filipino cuisines take centre stage, with a modern twist that honours both heritage and innovation,” added the restaurant.

An exact menu for the new concept has yet to be announced, but Halina has been sharing plenty of news regarding the space’s design. Namely, a mural made in collaboration with Vancouver artist Mar Cortez featuring an ancient Filipino script called Baybayin.

“This mural is more than art — it’s a tribute to our roots and the bonds that bring us together,” said the restaurant. It features kapwa (shared identity and interconnectedness), bayanihan (Communal unity and cooperation), and ligaya (joy and celebration of life).

The new restaurant’s exact opening date has yet to be announced. Be sure to check back here for more information.
