Giant Canada flag unfurled on Grouse Mountain ahead of FIFA World Cup

If you looked up at the North Shore mountains of Metro Vancouver at some point today, you might have done a double take as it looks quite a bit more patriotic than usual.
A giant Canadian flag was unfurled across the lowest ski slope area of Grouse Mountain on Tuesday.

The flag has been positioned sideways near the bottom of The Cut ski run — an elevation of roughly 900 metres above sea level. As this run faces the southeast, the best view of the flag is from East Vancouver and Burnaby.

Daily Hive Urbanized reached out to Grouse Mountain Resort earlier this afternoon, and they said an official announcement will be made Wednesday morning.
This installation comes just over a week ahead of the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Over at Vancouver International Airport, another massive patriotic installation has been installed — a giant “Go Canada!” message embedded into a grassy area next to the airport’s North Runway, which is primarily used for landings.

Additionally, the transformation of the geodesic dome of Science World into the adidas Triondaon — the official match soccer ball of the 2026 FIFA World Cup — is very close to 100 per cent completion.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, just one of the 131 panels covering the dome have yet to be installed. Its full completion is anticipated later today or tomorrow.
