Fort Langley's Cranberry Festival returns this Thanksgiving Weekend

Oct 8 2019, 12:40 pm

The Fort Langley Cranberry Festival, one of the area’s most popular fall events, is making its return this Thanksgiving weekend.

The annual event, which was founded in 1995, will take place on Saturday, October 12, starting at 10 am. A large turnout is expected, as last year’s event drew in more than 65,000 attendees, according to the Festival website.

Organizers note that “British Columbia is the third-largest producer of cranberries in the world” and that the Cranberry Festival is “one of three in Canada.”

The one-day celebration begins with a pancake breakfast which takes place at 8:30 am, before the events official start time of 10 am. Organizers say that there will be over 100 marketplace vendors, with wares such as cranberry wine, beer, soaps, preserves, dog treats, and even cranberry-inspired jewellery available for purchase.

16 food vendors will be on-site, as well as live entertainment and more than 20 teams taking part in the Cranberry Festival Regatta.

Other activities, according to the event’s Facebook page, include several cranberry stomps and campfire cranberry Bannock. The Langley Centennial Museum, BC Farm Museum, and the National Historic Site will also host interactive exhibits, while the Fort Langley Community Hall hosts face painting, balloon artists, and a “creative cube” for kids.

And of course, expect plenty of fresh local cranberries available for purchase.
