Former Canucks winger Evander Kane takes aim at Dr. Anthony Fauci
Evander Kane does not appear to be a fan of Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Or science, for that matter.
The former Vancouver Canucks winger took aim at the longtime federal health official, after he was held in contempt of Congress on Thursday by a Republican-led Senate committee. It came after the 85-year-old invoked the Fifth Amendment on multiple occasions, on the advice of his counsel.
Kane, who the NHL suspended for 21 games in 2021 for breaking COVID-19 protocol, used the news as an opportunity to sound off on social media.
“Imagine believing that someone else’s injection was supposed to protect someone who didn’t get one… and then calling other people the idiots,” Kane said. “And acting like that was obvious science.”
Kane then took aim at the media.
“And the media didn’t just repeat it, they amplified it, enforced it, and treated anyone who questioned it like they were dangerous.”

Kane had his contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks after he allegedly submitted vaccination card before the 2021-22 season. It sparked an NHL investigation and later, an NHLPA grievance.
This isn’t the first time Kane shared an apparent interest in American politics. He and Conor Garland were pictured with FBI Director Kash Patel last October. Kane also attended Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony in January 2025.
An unrestricted free agent, Kane is currently without a team. His playing future is in doubt after a lacklustre 2025-26 season with the Canucks. If the 35-year-old can’t land a contract in the next six weeks, he might have to prove himself on a pro tryout contract, or retire.
