Free festival of Filipino food and culture coming to Surrey this month

A family-friendly Filipino festival is happening in Surrey this month, and you’ll want to bring an appetite.

The Museum of Surrey is hosting its annual Filipino Fest on Saturday, Sept. 12, with live performances, food vendors, children’s activities, and more.

According to the museum, it is an opportunity for guests to reconnect with their roots or learn about Filipino culture for the first time.

“Once again, Museum of Surrey is excited to host Filipino Fest,” said Museum of Surrey Manager Lynn Saffery.

“It is an honour to work with the Filipino community as they celebrate and share traditions through performance, food, activities, vendors, and music.”

This year’s Filipino festival will showcase a thrilling events lineup of performers, including singers, poets, dancers, and DJs.

Artists that will take the stage include Glisha, The Kuyas, Raffy Swap One, Red Filos, Mabuhay Arnis, and Grupo Ilocano Association of BC.  The festival will also feature interactive experiences that showcase Filipino heritage and traditions.

There will be a marketplace with local vendors and artisans, kids’ activities, cultural displays, textile exhibits, and photo opportunities.

Guests are also encouraged to taste the Philippines by visiting the food vendors on site at the Museum of Surrey.

Several local Filipino food stalls will be serving up mouth-watering traditional and modern dishes throughout the day, including:

• Nanay Kitchen
• Dale’s Food Products
• Kasalo
• Timplado Filipino Street Food Truck

“Whether you’re reconnecting with your heritage or experiencing Filipino culture for the first time, the festival offers an opportunity for visitors of all ages to celebrate, discover, and learn through engagement and interaction,” added the Museum of Surrey in a statement.
