“Fairgrounds has always been about more than just courts. It’s about reimagining the racket club as a true community hub where everyone feels welcome,” said Drummond Munro, co-founder of Fairgrounds, in a release.

“We are excited to bring this inclusive atmosphere to North Vancouver and look forward to creating meaningful connections within the local community.”

The flagship racket club is 60,000 sq. ft., and is located inside the former North Shore Bike Park. It will feature 15 indoor pickleball courts, a lounge, and a café offering food and drinks.

Pickleballers are invited to try out the new courts during opening weekend from Dec. 12 to 14. There will also be local vendors and complimentary food and beverages from Lee’s Donuts, Greenhouse, Barbet, and more.

Fairgrounds is also offering free programming like open-play lessons, coach-led clinics and socials in December. And the Capilano location is offering kids free play throughout the month.

Visitors can also sign up for league play, coaching and clinics, member mixers, and pickleball parties. A curated lineup of paddles, apparel, and lifestyle gear will also be available for purchase in the pro shop.

According to Fairgrounds, pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in North America. Similar to tennis, table tennis, and badminton, the sport is played with a racquet and a ball, both indoors and outdoors.

Metro Vancouver players can also get their game on at the Inclusive Place of Pickleball (IPOP) at the old Safeway at the City of Lougheed in Burnaby, or at one of the several free outdoor pickleball courts around the region.

Another gigantic pickleball centre is also being planned for a location next to Tsawwassen Mills Shopping Centre in Delta.
