Earnest Ice Cream just launched a sundae inspired by an East Vancouver celebrity

Earnest Ice Cream just debuted a new sundae ahead of Halloween, and it’s inspired by the most famous cat in East Vancouver: Nigel.
“Nigel is a black cat that wanders the streets around our Frances Street shop,” shared Angela Vannatter in a video on Earnest Ice Cream’s Instagram. “If you live in East Van, you probably know the Nigel lore. He’s made national news, and also has his own tourist attraction on Google Maps which is actually a shrine to him on a telephone pole that’s decorated with fan art.”
Earlier this year, Nigel was “accused of crimes against the neighbourhood” (according to The Canadian Press) after a neighbour continued to leave angry notes on a telephone pole related to Nigel’s eating habits. This resulted in the community banding together under the name “Team Nigel” and the creation of Nigel’s shrine on the aforementioned pole. Since then, Nigel has had aĀ fan page on Instagram created in his honour.
“Since the Halloween season is upon us, also the season of the black cat, we thought what a perfect opportunity to honour Nigel and the joy he brings our community. So, we decided to make a Nigel Sundae,” Vannatter said.

The sundae in question features a shortbread cookie cut in the shape of a cat along with a chocolate black sesame sauce and your choice of ice cream for the base (though the team recommends it with chocolate or Tahitian vanilla).
“It’s nutty, cocoa-y, and delicious, added Vannatter.
However, it’s important to note that this sundae is only available at Earnest’s Frances Street shop.
“When we reached out to Nigel’s family about this sundae, they actually let us know they moved further away from the Frances Street shop, but Nigel still always finds his way back here. And as Nigel finds his way back to the Frances Street neighbourhood, we hope you can find your way to the shop and enjoy this special sundae,” said Vannatter.
