Vancouver's favourite ice cream shop is coming to Granville Island
When thinking of ice cream in Vancouver, many immediately think of Earnest.
The chain, which has been operating for nearly ten years, is best known for its rotating selection of inventive flavours. Think varieties like cannoli, butter pecan, field berry cheesecake, carrot cake, and more.
Now, the Vancouver staple is gearing up for its fifth location in the city, this time on Granville Island.

“We try to make each shop unique,” said co-founder Erica Bernardi in a press release. “This could be our last location, so we knew we wanted it to feel really special. We’ve always trusted our gut when it comes to choosing spaces — community first, and then everything else. It’s harder than it sounds to find somewhere that checks all the practical boxes and just feels right. This one does.”
The local mini chain shared that this new location will be rooted in Granville Island’s character. The space, designed by Studio Roslyn, will draw inspiration from Granville Island’s maritime history while also featuring work from local artists throughout the space.
Earnest’s jar-return program will also be available at this location, allowing customers to bring back pint jars to be washed and reused.

“Growth is exciting, but we’re clear-eyed about what it costs,” said co-CEO and co-founder Ben Ernst. “Change can strain the culture our team has built together, so we’ve always been deliberate about where we put down roots. We open in neighbourhoods where we actually want to spend time — places worth lingering in. Ice cream has a way of doing that to people. When you have a cone in your hand, you slow down. You wander. You notice things.”

Earnest isn’t the only Vancouver favourite to open on Granville Island, as Burdy’s has also announced it will be opening a storefront just steps away.
An exact opening date for Earnest Granville Island has yet to be announced, but expect to stop by for a scoop (or a pint) sometime this fall.
