Commercial Drive snack bar has quietly closed — here's the Vancouver restaurant replacing it
Unfortunately, a Vancouver favourite has quietly closed its doors: The Drive Canteen.
The concept was brought to us from the founders of DL Chicken and urban streetwear entrepreneur and art collector Zach Wilcox, and operated at 1111 Commercial Dr.
Here, patrons enjoyed sweet and savoury treats, made-to-order tricked-out hot dogs, loaded nachos, and house-made beverages as well.
However, the space won’t be empty for long as we’ve already received word of what will be opening in its place.

Chefhyve, a restaurant specializing in fast-casual food, shared with Dished that it will be opening in the former home of The Drive Canteen.
“We chose the location because of its great visibility and proximity to our existing East Van fan base, given the success of the original Chefhyve on Kingsway,” shared the restaurant.
Chefhyve is best known for its selection of wraps, burgers, burritos, and much more.
“We offer elevated, globally-inspired dishes from a seasonal menu in a simple, fast-casual setting,” said the restaurant on its website.
Chefhyve also noted that this location will operate as a test kitchen, where the team will use it as a launch pad for new dishes.
“The location on the Drive will bring my vision for the brand to life,” added the restaurant. “We are definitely planning a refined twist here, while sticking true to our roots of down-to-earth, fully halal menu driven by real people and real food made with love!”
Patrons can expect to visit Chefhyve Commercial Drive sometime at the start of 2026.
