Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the person responsible for a daytime stranger attack outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), a 27-year-old woman was walking in front of the 800 block of West Georgia Street on Friday, Oct. 30, at around 10:30 a.m.

An unknown man allegedly kicked her in the upper arm and punched her in the upper body without provocation or warning.

“Several concerned bystanders intervened to stop the attack, causing the suspect to flee westbound on West Georgia Street,” explained the VPD in a release. “Fortunately, the victim did not suffer physical injuries.”

“Investigators are asking for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward to help identify the suspect.”

The VPD also released a CCTV image of the suspect in the late October assault.

“Anyone who witnessed the assault, possesses dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident, or can identify the suspect is asked to call the Vancouver Police non-emergency line at 604-717-3321.”

This is just the latest stranger attack incident in Vancouver in recent weeks.

A 73-year-old woman was the victim of a recent assault, which occurred at Victory Square on Hastings on Thursday, Oct. 15, around 6:10 a.m.

The woman was waiting in line for a recycling cup program before a suspect approached her and attempted to steal the bags she had that contained the recyclable cups.

She attempted to stop the theft, resulting in the suspect allegedly punching her in the eye and pushing her to the ground. The suspect successfully stole one of the bags before they fled eastbound on West Hastings Street near Cambie. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

In a separate incident, a 77-year-old woman was taken to hospital following what the VPD described as an “unprovoked stranger attack”.

The incident took place on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 12, around 6:30 p.m.

“The senior was walking near Cambie Street and West Broadway when she was intentionally shouldered and knocked to the ground by a man walking in the opposite direction,” said the department in a release.
