A B.C. couple who were severely injured in a tragic car accident are on the “long, painful, and arduous road of recovery,” and their community has come together to support them on their journey with a fundraiser.
Miranda Shaffer and her husband Josh were involved in a “catastrophic” vehicle collision with what her family alleges “was likely an impaired driver.”
“Anyone who knows Miranda and Josh knows they’re a beautiful couple who are madly in love,” said Marty Milner, sibling of Miranda on the GoFundMe page.
“They were recently married in May and deserved a healthy, normal start of their marriage. That was ripped away from them.”

On Oct. 28, Miranda underwent a series of surgeries for her injuries, which included brain bleed, two broken neck bones, a broken hand and foot, and multiple lacerations to her head.
The fundraiser also explained that Josh was conscious during the crash, crawled out of the wreck, suffered a hematoma on his chest, and was “terribly traumatized.”
“Miranda and Josh will need financial support to help them on their journey, since they will both be unable to work for the foreseeable future, and our family will have to make many sacrifices to ensure their health,” wrote Marty about the Brentwood Bay couple.
“Josh will likely be her primary caretaker for a long time, if not for the rest of her life, once she is able to return home. Everything is very uncertain at the moment.”
At the time of reporting, the fundraiser had raised over $209,000 of its $250,000 goal.

“From the bottom of our hearts, our whole family thanks everyone for the overwhelming barrage of donations from everybody in our communities,” posted Marty in an update. “It is a clear testament to how beloved Miranda and Josh are, and there are no words to describe how grateful we are for all of the support.”
The last updates from the family were posted on Halloween and explained that Miranda was able to trigger breaths on her own for about two hours.
A fundraiser has also been launched to help the family of a pedestrian killed in Vancouver in late September bring his body home.
“Cisco was tragically killed after being struck by a vehicle in Vancouver,” said Alexa Vidal on the GoFundMe page, who is organizing on behalf of Roge Jessanee Dela Cruz.
His passing has left RJay, their families, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him heartbroken. Losing someone so suddenly is incredibly difficult, and the family is now faced with the emotional and financial challenges that come with such an unimaginable loss.”
