The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is looking for assistance in identifying the suspects in three separate unprovoked stranger assaults that all happened on Thursday, Oct. 15.
A 73-year-old woman was the victim of the first assault, which occurred at Victory Square on Hastings at around 6:10 a.m.
The woman was waiting in line for a recycling cup program before a suspect approached her and attempted to steal the bags she had that contained the recyclable cups.
She attempted to stop the theft, resulting in the suspect allegedly punching her in the eye and pushing her to the ground. The suspect successfully stole one of the bags before they fled eastbound on West Hastings Street near Cambie.
The 73-year-old victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.
Police are describing the suspect as a white woman in her 30s with dirty blonde shoulder-length hair with blonde highlights. At the time, she was wearing a blue jacket, a white sweater underneath, black pants, and white shoes.
The second incident took place near Commercial Drive, shortly before 12:30 p.m.
A 44-year-old man was talking on the phone when he was approached by a man who started making racist remarks.
“After the victim told the suspect to leave him alone, the man elbowed him in the chin before punching and kicking him. The assault ended when witnesses intervened. The suspect was last seen walking southbound on Commercial Drive,” VPD said.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned man between 40 and 50 years old, approximately 5’7″, with a slim build. At the time, he was wearing a grey dress shirt, tan pants, white shoes, and a green cross-body bag.
The third incident occurred near Burrard and West Georgia.
A man was walking westbound when a man walking in the opposite direction suddenly struck him on his back.
“They briefly exchanged words before the suspect fled eastbound on West Georgia Street,” VPD shared.
The suspect is described as a Black man, around 5’9″, with short black hair and a black beard. At the time, he was wearing a green winter jacket and carrying a black backpack.
