The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is sharing some information about two violent incidents, one involving a taxi driver near Boundary Road.

VPD said that the first alleged attack happened on Oct. 28 at around 7:30 p.m.

Police received a report from a caller that an unknown man damaged his vehicle’s side mirror near Butler Street and East 46th Avenue before leaving the area.

Shortly after 8 p.m., police received another call reporting an assault at Tyne Street and East 47th Avenue. According to the call, the assault was allegedly committed by an unknown man with a similar description.

The victim in the second incident was a taxi driver. The driver told police that the unknown man approached him while he was inside his taxi.

“When he refused to give him a ride, the man allegedly punched him in the neck, then punched the taxi multiple times,” VPD said.

Police also shared that the Vancouver taxi driver watched the suspect until officers arrived on the scene and took the suspect into custody.

VPD has named the suspect as 50-year-old Brent David Hasman. Hasman was transported to jail and was charged with assault and mischief.

This isn’t the first case of violence against a taxi driver in Vancouver. Last year, we reported that a 16-year-old was arrested for allegedly stabbing a taxi driver in the Downtown Eastside.
