Downlow Chicken Shack owners to open a new Vancouver burger joint (PHOTOS)

To say that folks in this city have been loving Downlow Chicken is an understatement.

The popular Nashville hot chicken spot first opened last June, and Vancouverites have been lining up to down its epic sandos, sides, wings, and more ever since.

To make matters even more delicious, last fall the eatery started running a weekly pop-up called Downlow Burgers, which moonlighted in the chicken shack every Monday…until now.

Downlow Smash, formerly called Downlow Burgers, is officially getting its own permanent digs in Vancouver.

The popular burger purveyor will be setting up shop at The American at 926 Main Street in Strathcona.

Downlow Smash will be taking over the space inside the pub formerly occupied by Monarch Burger, and it plans to start serving up its epic eats by early September.

“We had been searching for a location for a little while, but when The American brought the idea to the table, everything just aligned itself,” says Downlow owner Doug Stephen. “The American is a hot spot for sports games, pre and post concerts, and more. We can’t wait to introduce even more people to our smash burgers.”

If you’ve devoured a Downlow Smash burger before then you know what you’re in for — a perfectly-cooked special dry-aged beef grind from Two Rivers Meats, a fresh-baked bun from local bakery and cafe Livia Sweets, and all the fixings we know and love.

So what exactly will we be biting into come September? We’ve got the scoop on that too.

The Downlow Smash menu features six mouth-watering 7oz burgers, including the Merch (Backyard), the Americana (the “Big Mac”), the Not in Kansas (with BBQ Sauce), the Fat Boy (Winnipeg classic), the South of the Border ( Tex-Mex), and the Faux-Pho (Banh Mi).

Downlow Smash will also be offering up a veggie-based patty, along with sides like a Caesar Salad, Wedge Salad, Chopped Beef Salad, Chili Cheese Fries, Classic Fries, and Loaded Fries topped with a smashed beef patty.

Also, there will be House-Smoked Onion Rings… the ones that will change your life (try them if you haven’t, seriously).

“We are very excited to start a new chapter of The American with Doug and Lindsey,”
says Patryk Drozd and Simon Fallick, owners of The American. “Downlow Smash is
going to be an incredible addition to The American and we are looking forward to sharing
it with everyone.”

Burgers from Downlow Smash will be $12 and sides start at $4.
