Legendary Vancouver sportscaster Don Taylor will be on TV less going forward

After teasing a change to his show last week, Don Taylor revealed the news on Donnie and Dhali on Monday.

Taylor announced that he’ll be scaling back his workload going forward. The 65-year-old Vancouver sports broadcasting legend isn’t retiring, but he wants to spend more time with loved ones.

“I’m going to a four-day work week,” Taylor announced, revealing that he’ll be taking Fridays off going forward. “You’re at an age where you want to spend more time with the people you care about, because there’s only so much time left.”

“You deserve it. You’re a legend in the market,” said co-host Rick Dhaliwal.

Taylor and Dhaliwal have co-hosted Donnie and Dhali on CHEK television since 2021, following Bell Media’s decision to pull TSN 1040 off the air. The show has been a hit ever since, blending a unique mix of humour with unmatched Vancouver Canucks news-breaking from Dhaliwal.

“It’s not a big deal, at least I don’t think it’s a big deal. In fact, it’s probably good for the viewers and listeners out there. I’m 900 years old,” Taylor joked.

Donnie and Dhali will continue to air on Fridays, with longtime producer Ryan Henderson filling in for Taylor as co-host. Taylor and Dhaliwal will co-host Monday through Thursday.

Inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2024, Taylor has been commenting on sports in Vancouver for over 40 years.

The North Burnaby native became a star on Sports Page, a wildly successful local sports highlights show, from 1985 to 2000. Taylor later took his talents to Sportsnet, where he hosted a highlights show broadcast out of Vancouver from 2001 to 2014. The popular sportscaster also made waves on radio, briefly on CKNW before an 18-year run at Team 1040/TSN 1040.
