Dogs aren’t just pets; sometimes, they’re heroes too.
Take Blue, for example, the determined dog who became a hero after running six kilometres to save his owner, Brandon Garrett, who was stranded overnight following a serious car crash in Oregon on June 2.

According to a statement from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Garrett had been travelling north on US Forest Service Road 39 with his four dogs when his vehicle plunged into a ravine. The group was on their way to meet family at a campsite but never arrived.
The report indicates that after failing to “negotiate a curve,” the vehicle plummeted off the embankment and landed on its side in a ravine. This is when the heroic Blue sprang into action.

Blue travelled nearly four miles (six kilometres) back to the family’s camp, alerting the other members that something was wrong.
Garrett’s family rushed to the ravine and located his vehicle but couldn’t reach it due to the challenging terrain.
A family member called the police around 9:30 am local time on June 3 to report the incident. Sheriff Ash arrived at the scene with Blue in tow, and as they searched for an access point to the creek, they heard Garrett’s plea for help.

Thanks to Blue’s heroic actions, his owner was found safe and alive.
Comments under the press release on Facebook praised Blue, saying, “That doggo helped save his life!!” and “Blue proved his loyalty what an amazing dog. Good boy, Blue.”
After the crash, Garrett managed to crawl approximately 100 metres from the vehicle, where he spent the night.
Sheriff Ash administered first aid while volunteers from Pine Valley Rural Fire and US Forest Service employees cleared a path using chainsaws. Garrett was placed inside a rescue basket and pulled across the ravine using a highline rope system.
