The Christie Mountain wildfire burning in BC’s Interior destroyed its first home on Wednesday and continues to grow in size.
The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen confirmed the fire destroyed a residence on Christie Mountain Lane in the Heritage Hills community south of Penticton.

The home was placed under evacuation order the day before, and the district has contacted the property owner.
The RDOS can confirm the loss of one home at 176 Christie Mountain Lane in Heritage Hills south of Penticton due to the Christie Mountain Fire. The property was placed under Evacuation Order August 18th. The owner has been contacted by the RDOS.

A total of 319 properties in the area were placed under evacuation order because of the fire, and 3,700 more have been placed under evacuation alert.
The fire grew to 14 square kilometres in size Wednesday afternoon, according to the BC Wildfire Service. The day before, it was only 2.5 square kilometres in size.
