It’s been a tough year for the restaurant industry, and we are sad to report another casualty. Popular Korean chicken chain Chicken Plus has closed its Metro Vancouver location, which was a joint restaurant with Sulbing Cafe.

Located at 6360 Kingsway, Burnaby, this was the chain’s first and only Metro Vancouver spot, opening in 2022. It was best known for its various styles of chicken and tteokbokki.

While the restaurant has not officially announced its closure, a new eatery, Sushi Bay and Oyster Bar, has already opened in the space.

In May 2024, Chicken Plus x Sulbing Cafe received backlash after it became the centre of attention on Reddit for forcing tipping by hiding its “no tip” option.

Original poster reddit_Lemur said the restaurant had no table-waiting staff, just a cashier.

“Some cook in the back made it, and I brought it to my table. At no point was I ‘served’ anything,” they said.

While Chicken Plus currently has no other Metro Vancouver locations, you can still visit Sulbing Cafe at its other locations at 4501 North Road, Burnaby, and 1610 Robson Street, Vancouver.
