Canada's smallest bar is coming to Vancouver

Oct 23 2026, 10:41 pm

The Chickadee Room is celebrating six years in Vancouver’s Chinatown with a special, baseball-inspired pop-up in collaboration with Montreal’s El Pequeño.

The event consists of a baseball-style cocktail showdown with three innings, two bar teams, and a room full of fans casting the votes that put the “runs” on the board.

Over the three innings, The Chickadee Room bar team (led by Beverage Director Alex Tognassi) will square off against El Pequeño’s visiting bartenders, Benjamin Poirier-Chartrand and Marc Lefrançois.

“Our team loves baseball and for The Chickadee Room’s sixth birthday celebration this year, we wanted to add a little friendly competition,” said Justin Tisdall, who founded The Chickadee Room and Juke Fried Chicken with Bryan Satterford and Cord Jarvie. “El Pequeño packs a lot of punch in just 141 square feet. We’re thrilled to welcome them to Vancouver, and we’re leaving it to our guests to decide who takes the win.”

The event takes place on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., with drinks running from $15. Reservations can be made online, but walk-ins are also welcome.

El Pequeño is a Cuban-inspired cocktail bar in the heart of Old Montreal, with a space designed around the golden age of tourism in Havana, Cuba (circa the 1920s).

As for The Chickadee Room, the 80s-inspired cocktail and snack bar is located attached to Juke Fried Chicken and started as a patio pop-up in June of 2020 during the pandemic. By the end of the year, it had become a permanent part of Vancouver’s Chinatown.
