18 Canada 150 cocktails to sip on in Vancouver

Happy 150th birthday Canada! It’s time for us Canucks to celebrate this milestone the best way we know how: By raising our glasses in a toast to to the true north strong and free.

This occasion is so big that everyone is doing something special to make July 1 the most deliciously Canadian day of the year. That includes many Vancouver bartenders, who have come up with some fun Canada-inspired drinks to mark Canada 150.

Here are 18 Canada 150 cocktails to sip on this summer in Vancouver.

1. Rocky Mountain Caesar from YEW seafood + bar

This special Canada 150 cocktail features Canadian Club Whiskey with Clamato, kicked up with adobo peppers, maple syrup, olive juice, and lime, and is served decked out with celery, olives, and a bacon garnish (of course, eh!).

Hy’s has created five regionally-inspired cocktails available at all of it’s locations to celebrate Canada 150. The Muskoka Dream, Portage & Main, Spirits of the West, Coastal Wave, and Alpine Glow are all up for order until August 31.

L’Abattoir Head bartender Katie Ingram has created a special Canadiana themed cocktail in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. Inspired by the Canadian national motto – A Mari Usque Ad Mare (Sea to Sea) – this complex cocktail is a contemporary twist on the classic Vieux Carré cocktail. It’s a blend of rum, whisky, sweet vermouth and bitters made from sour cherries and Haskap berries from the Okanagan.

9-11. Canada 150 Cocktails from Vancouver Theatresports

Vancouver Theatresports is offering a menu of new cocktails designed to complement the theme of their feature show Oh Canada – The True North Strong and Funny. These drinks include Traditional Caesars, The Double-Double (Baileys Irish Cream and Kahlua with a splash of Van Gogh Espresso Vodka served over ice) and The All Canadian (Maple Crown Royal Whisky, Canada Dry Ginger Ale with a dash of bitters).

13. Ahead By A Century from Lobby Lounge and RawBar

This drink consists of Long Table Gin, Lillet Blanc, lemon, lavender, maraschino, and chocolate bitters. This cocktail was inspired by the music of Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip, it is $15. Available all of July.

14. Le Cent Cinquantenaire from Lobby Lounge and RawBar

This beverage is a mix of Remy Martin XO, Okanagan Pear Eau-de-vie, Lemon, BC Wildflower Honey, and Dom Perignon. Enjoy this decadent variation of the classic French 75 for $150. Available all of July.

A combo of Bulliet Bourbon, Black Apple Tea Syrup, Fino Sherry, Lemon Juice, Bar Spoon Maple Syrup and Bittered Sling Clingstone Peach Bitters. This cocktail was named after the first provincial capital of Ontario, and it was created by Sabrine Dhaliwal.
