From closing to its first brick-and-mortar: Burdy is returning to Vancouver

When Burdy announced that it had sold its beloved bright yellow and solar-powered food truck, it was less of a permanent goodbye and more of a “see you later” with the promise that the team had a plan to return. Now, we know exactly what that is, and it comes to us in the form of its first brick-and-mortar.

The Burdy team shared with Dished that it will be opening on Granville Island in the Chain and Forge building, operating a 1,100 sq. ft. space with 14 indoor seats and a large shared outdoor patio.

In addition to the classic offerings that fans of the food truck have come to expect, the team said that it will be adding its beloved braised beef sandwich as a permanent addition to the menu since it was its most popular feature sandwich.

But there will be some new items on the menu as well, including calzones made in-house with slow-fermented pizza dough, folded and baked fresh. Additionally, the team teased the addition of breakfast.

“Our breakfast menu from Friday to Sunday will be sticking to the theme of sandwiches. Simple but delicious and great for taking away or enjoying at the shop,” said the team, though they did not go into specifics, adding that they’ll be announcing more details on their new menu items over the coming months.

Additionally, customers will be able to enjoy a selection of local beer, wine, and cider, which you’ll be able to enjoy inside or take to the large shared patio outside.

As for the design, the team said, “We loved the simplicity of our old food truck, but our new space will definitely have an elevated look to it and will have quite a different vibe than what everyone has been used to.” We’re told to expect lots of warm wood accents, beautiful tile details, and a fun floor pattern that you’d see in an old Italian bistro.

“Our shop is a corner unit with walls of windows on each side that fully slide open to create an indoor/outdoor space. It will be a darker interior with warm lighting, which will make the space super cozy in the evenings and colder months of the year,”Ā  shared Burdy. “We have been working on the design of this space with the team at JDG Interior Design, and it has been a pleasure working with them. They have captured the look and feel we were aiming to achieve.”

As for an opening date, construction is expected to start in February, and the store should be ready for late spring, though an exact date is still to be determined.

“We are very excited to become part of the Granville Island family and we have been welcomed by them with open arms,” concluded Burdy.
