The Boathouse Restaurant to close two of its locations by the end of this summer

2025 has unfortunately seen the closure of many notable restaurants. Now, we received word that The Boathouse will be closing two of its locations: Kitsilano and White Rock.
Shah Ghani, COO of The Boathouse, confirmed the news of these closures to Dished and added that the reason for these closures was the expiration of their leases.
“We are grateful for everyone that has made our time at these locations special, and are thankful to our dedicated employees for their hard work throughout the years,” added Ghani. “While it’s time to close this chapter, the spirit of The Boathouse lives on at our other nearby locations, where we remain committed to providing an exceptional experience for our guests.”
Additionally, Ghani said they are working to relocate team members to other nearby Boathouse restaurants upon the closure.
Both locations will close on September 21, 2025.

Rumblings about The Boathouse Kitsilano closing have been circulating for a while, with the Vancouver Park Board, which owns the two-storey beachside restaurant building, having conducted a bidding process in January 2025 to seek a new restaurant operator.
“In accordance with the City of Vancouver’s procurement policy, the long-term lease has reached its conclusion. As a result, we are required to extend this opportunity to all restaurateurs and hospitality companies, including The Boathouse,” a spokesperson told Daily Hive Urbanized in January 2025.
The Boathouse has been operating in Vancouver ever since it opened its first location in 1981 in Coal Harbour, before moving its flagship to English Bay (which closed in October 2018). In 2011, The Boathouse came under the operations of the U.S.-based hospitality company Landry’s as part of their acquisition of the McCormick & Schmick’s seafood chain.
The restaurant also quietly shuttered its Richmond outpost in 2020.
Following the closure of Kitsilano and White Rock, The Boathouse will have only two locations in Metro Vancouver: New Westminster and Port Moody.
