The highly-anticipated Abbotsford Tulip Festival announces early opening

May flowers are coming just a little bit early this year.

Festival organizers have announced that for the first time ever, BLOOM, the Abbotsford Tulip Festival, will be opening early.

Running for its fourth consecutive year, BLOOM has managed to gather international attention for its eye-catching and mesmerizing mix of colour and beauty.

Organizers explain that rows of colourful tulips are already beginning to blossom, with millions of bulbs soon to follow.

More than 2.5 million tulips are expected to reach full bloom and approximately 90,000 visitors are expected over the course of the five-week festival.

The opening date of the festival will take place this weekend on Saturday, April 13.

New this year, is the VIP Flower Crown package which allows visitors to upgrade their festival experience to a whole new level.

The package includes one High Bloom ticket for May 4/5 weekend, ‘Skip the Line’ privilege, an exclusive on-site opportunity to make your own flower crown, U-pick bucket, exclusive bloom tote bag available only to VIPs, plus rain insurance with complimentary booties and a poncho.

Located just off Highway 1 at No. 3 Road/Exit 104, and about an hour drive from Vancouver, Bloom was founded by Alexis Warmerdam, a passionate third-generation Canadian tulip farmer and fourth generation bulb grower with Lakeland Flowers, and a strong advocate for young BC farmers.

When: Opens on Saturday, April 13 and runs daily for as long as the blooms last

Time: 9 am to 7:30 pm

Where: 36737 North Parallel Road – Abbotsford

Admission:

• Adults 13 – 64: $10 at the gate or $7.50 online (weekdays), $25 at the gate or $15 online (weekends)
• Children 3 – 12: $10 at the gate or $5 online (weekdays), $25 at the gate or $10 online (weekends)
• Seniors (65+): $5 at the gate or $3.75 online (weekdays), $25 at the gate (weekends)
• Children three years and under are free. Parking is included with all tickets
• Magic Hour (5 – 6 am*): $15 at the gate or $13 online (weekdays), $30 at the gate or $25 online (weekends) Provides sunrise access. *Check website for changing Magic Hour times
• Abbotsford Locals Night (Tuesdays and Thursdays after 3 pm): $4 at the gate or $2.50 online with valid ID
