BLND TGER Dumplings set to open in Chinatown this week

A new under-the-radar dumpling shop is about to pop up in Chinatown. BLND TGER is set to open at 251 East Georgia Street in Vancouver this week.

Leading the culinary program at this concept is Chef Phong Vo, who’s curated a menu of six delectable kinds of dumplings for order.

The interior of the 200 square foot space was inspired by stands found in the alleys of Shanghai.

Once open, patrons are invited to come in and grab their dumplings for takeout or opt to enjoy them onsite at BLND TGER’s front and curbside patios, which offer four and 12 seats, respectively.

BLND TGER will operate out of Mamie Taylor’s former space, between Main and Gore Street.

If you’re wondering about the name, the restaurant has a simple explanation: If the tiger is blind, it doesn’t have eyes.

Chef Vo, formerly at Ampersand Bistro, Heirloom, and Yuzu Izakaya, has curated handmade dumplings with fresh dough and fillings sourced from nearby Chinatown businesses.

These morsels are made daily.

“The pork in the Single Malt Xiao Long Bao and Zhong Dumplings comes from
neighbourhood mainstay Carley’s BBQ & Hot Pot Supply, immediately next door,” says
Vo.

“As well as the eggplant and shiitake for the Vegetable Shaomai, we source all our
dry goods and spices, such as the cumin and Sichuan peppercorns for the Xinjiang
Cumin Lamb Dumplings, from Ga Cheong Herbal Medic around the corner on Gore
Avenue.”

BLND TGER has tapped other local suppliers like Two Rivers Meats and TMRW Foods as a vegan meat alternative for dumplings.

When it comes to drinks, guests can expect a rotating selection of housemade, bottled, cold-steeped iced teas.

These libations are brewed and flavoured by Alex Black, who uses premium teas from Treasure Green Tea Company located just down the street from the dumpling shop.
