A massive glowing bicycle night ride is coming to Vancouver this month

HUB Cycling’s Bike the Night is returning this month for an epic bicycle ride, and you’re invited to hit the road.
Vancouver’s largest organized night bicycle ride will take place on Friday, Sept. 18, with a thousand people cycling of all ages and abilities expected to take part.
Participants are invited to deck out their bikes in bright lights, dress up in their flashiest apparel, and go on a 10 km family-friendly ride of the city’s seawall.
There are two evening time slots to choose from, and registration is open now.
You can also check out a free pre-ride festival before and afterwards filled with fun activities.

“The combination of music, costumes, bikes, glowing lights, and hundreds of other people creates a very unique community experience,” said Senior Event Manager Lisa Storey in a statement.
“Many cities have been hosting mass bike ride events like this for decades because they’re a lot of fun – and because they encourage people to get their bikes out of the garage or storage, and show people how to ride safely at night.”
This year’s bicycle ride will also act as a kick-off for Fall Go by Bike Week from Sept. 19 to 25.

What to expect
Bike the Night will begin and end at David Lam Park, where a pre-ride festival starts at 5 p.m. with events and activities, including:
- Live music
- Food trucks
- Games and prize draws
- Bike decorating
- Project 529 registrations
- Tune-ups from MEC
- Information about cycling safely at night and more.
The event is perfect for people who might ride casually during the day but feel less confident biking at night.
And the party atmosphere will also help keep the energy up during the glowing nighttime festivities.

How to participate

You can also support HUB Cycling’s important work and win a cash prize by buying a 50/50 raffle ticket.
Safety tips for night riding
HUB Cycling recommends the following night-riding tips:
- Use a white front light and red rear light
- Aim lights slightly downward to avoid glare
- Choose solid light settings over blinking
