B.C. weed sales see another record month but still smoked out by unlikely province

For two months in a row, B.C. has seen record-breaking weed sales, following a shocking low in October 2025.

Statistics Canada’s latest figures show retail sales for December 2025, when B.C. saw a record month totalling over $82 million in sales. This follows a record-breaking November 2025, when B.C. saw total sales reach over $78 million.

That all came after a devastatingly low month of cannabis sales in October 2025, when B.C. recorded just over $31 million in retail sales, largely due to the BCGEU strike, which impacted the Liquor Distribution Branch.

The record-breaking month for B.C. was also a huge and potentially record-breaking month for Canada, as the country saw $503 million in total retail cannabis sales.

Unlikely province continues to top B.C. weed sales

It was a Merry Weedsmas for most Canadian provinces that saw huge numbers of cannabis sales over the holiday period.

Many were surprised when we reported that an unlikely Canadian province was consistently beating B.C. in cannabis sales, and that trend seemingly continues.

While B.C. has closed the gap a little bit, Alberta residents continue to purchase more legal cannabis products than in B.C.

In December 2025, $85 million was spent on legal cannabis products in Alberta, compared to $82 million in B.C. Ontario continues to lead all provinces by a huge margin, seeing $189 million in weed sales in December 2025.

The provinces seeing the least amount of Cannabis sales are Yukon (just over $1 million) and Prince Edward Island (just over $2.6 million).

A ResearchCo poll from earlier this year showed that most Canadians still support cannabis legalization, but not other drugs. Of those surveyed, 29 per cent actually oppose cannabis legalization.

Interestingly, and what may be impacting B.C.’s legal cannabis sales industry, is that many respondents reported that they’re still buying weed from non-legal sources.

The ResearchCo poll revealed that less than half of Canadians (48 per cent) who have used marijuana after legalization bought it at a licensed retailer, while a smaller proportion (46 per cent) said that “most,” “some,” or “none” of their cannabis was purchased that way.
