Canada set a new record for sales of weed products this past August, according to data from Statistics Canada; however, B.C., known for its “bud,” was beaten out by two provinces, including one that some might find surprising.
B.C. came in third for sales this past August, with Ontario at the top of the leaderboard for cannabis sales.
Alberta, yes, Alberta recorded a higher number of sales than B.C., according to the latest figures.
Ontario led Canada, recording just over $197 million in sales, while Alberta recorded just over $86 million.
B.C. recorded just under $80 million in sales in August.
Despite trailing Alberta, B.C. is seeing strong sales after having reached a relative low point in March of this year, when sales totalled just over $56 million.
It’s also not a blip. Weed sales in Alberta have outpaced sales in B.C. every month since last August.
Across Canada, the country recorded just under half a billion in sales this August.
Sales could be impacted in the province further if the BCGEU strike continues. Daily Hive recently visited a cannabis dispensary in Metro Vancouver, which told us that they’re running out of product.

The BCGEU is currently in mediation to try and find a deal and has been so for exactly a week now.
“As mediation enters its sixth day, discussions continue and progress remains steady. While we have nothing substantial to report since yesterday, both parties are still at the table, and your bargaining committee remains focused on achieving results,” the BCGEU said in its most recent bargaining update.
