In October, we reported that B.C. weed sales had been smoked out by an unlikely province after a month of record cannabis sales this August in Canada.
Statistics Canada has updated its sales figures, now including sales figures for September, and B.C. weed sales actually slumped even further, beaten out by two provinces.
Many were surprised by the August numbers since B.C. is known by many as a hub for cannabis, as the province is known for its special quality of “B.C. bud.”
In August, B.C. recorded just over $73 million in weed sales, in a month where Canada recorded over $500 million. The same month, Alberta recorded over $86 million in sales. B.C. beat out many provinces that August, including Quebec, which recorded just under $70 million in sales.
Nationally, in September, cannabis sales totalled just over $474 million.
B.C. recorded $69 million in 420 sales.
In comparison, Alberta recorded $81 million and barely beat out Quebec, which recorded $66 million.
This is how sales break down between the two provinces between October 2024 and September 2025:

As the Statistics Canada sales figures show, B.C. has been beaten out by Alberta for weed sales every single month in that span. September also marks the lowest month of sales in B.C. since June.
Sales may have taken a dip due to the BCGEU strike, which recently came ot an end, as many shops were running low on cannabis products across the province and Metro Vancouver.
