Another overpass strike causes partial shutdown on major B.C. highway

Drivers heading eastbound in Surrey should expect delays after a commercial truck towing an excavator on a flatdeck trailer hit an overpass on a major B.C. highway.
The commercial truck hit the 192 overpass on Highway 1 in Surrey, near the Golden Ears Bridge exit.
The BC Highway Patrol was informed just before 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday by motorists who witnessed the strike.
“Police are working with CVSE (Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement) to investigate how this happened and ensure appropriate enforcement,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.

“The eastbound right lane was immediately shut down due to the collision, and motorists should expect delays in the area.”
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit will look at the damage to make sure it is safe for people to drive through.
In the meantime, drivers can look at DriveBC to plan their route.
This same overpass had a similar strike nearly four years ago, when another truck towing an excavator crashed into it, resulting in two people being hospitalized.
There have been a number of overpass strikes in recent years, including a commercial garbage truck hitting an overpass in Delta last March.
