4 new BC wineries you should check out soon

Oct 23 2023, 7:05 pm

British Columbia’s wine industry is going through a tremendous growth spurt and as of March 2023, there are now 341 licensed wineries in the province.

With all that competition and the quality level being pushed to new heights, it takes a lot to decide to start a new winery in BC.

We’ve recently discovered four that have taken the leap, all with very promising futures.

Part of the Okanagan Crush Pad portfolio, Garnet Valley Ranch is the latest project at the second estate vineyard. Sustainability in the vineyards and the winery is at the heart of everything it does and GVR not only embodies this spirit in the winery, but it also demonstrates it beautifully through a truly memorable experience at the property itself.

Red Barn Winery

Where: Oliver, BC

Red Barn is the newest winery in the Iconic Wineries of British Columbia (IWBC) umbrella that also includes Mission Hill, CheckMate, Martin’s Lane, Cedarcreek, Road 13 and Liquidity Wines. It stands in stark contrast to the group’s flagship winery Mission Hill. Where Mission Hill is grand in every sense of the word, Red Barn quietly produces just under 1,000 cases and is very much on the other end of the spectrum; very small production using fruit solely from Jagged Rock Vineyard.

Solvero Wines

Where: Summerland, BC

If the inaugural release of Solvero Wines is any indication of what’s to come from one of BC’s newest wineries, Solvero is a very bright rising star in the Okanagan wine region. Ten years in the making, it’s focused on four grape varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Gamay Noir) and already turning heads with its first wine release.

Frind Estate Winery

Where: West Kelowna, BC

While technically new, Frind comes with a long history as the former Bennett Family Estate. The sprawling 310-acre property is the largest vineyard in the province and also one of the highest sitting at 675 metres above sea level.

It also happens to be the first waterfront winery in North America to provide boat access to visitors.
