Michelin-winning group to open new downtown Vancouver hotel and restaurant in early 2026

Local real estate developer Amacon will open a new boutique hotel property in the Burrard Heights area of downtown Vancouver in early 2026.

Through the company’s hotel and restaurant operations division, Wentworth Hospitality Group (WHG), the new Arden Hotel is a full conversion and expansion of a 1972-built, six-storey medical office building at 1144 Burrard St. — situated just across from St. Paul’s Hospital.

This project is turning about 27,000 sq. ft. of former office space into 62 hotel guest rooms, a fitness gym, and meeting rooms.

As previously reported by Daily Hive Urbanized in 2023, major improvements are also being provided for the building’s prominent Burrard Street frontage, with an infill expansion on the west side of the building that replaces the previous surface vehicle parking and a ramp into the underground parking lot. This accommodates not only a welcoming hotel lobby entrance, but a “signature restaurant” with an outdoor dining patio.

WHG is the same team behind the Loden Hotel — which earned the Michelin Key award in 2025 for the second consecutive year, and is recognized by Conde Nast Traveler as one of Western Canada’s top hotels — and the notable restaurants of Tableau Bar Bistro, Homer St. Cafe & Bar, Maxine’s Cafe & Bar, and the May 2025-opened Folietta Ristorante & Bar.

“We are thrilled to bring Vancouver another boutique hotel that will play an integral part in the neighbourhood’s resurgence as a multi-faceted destination for business, tourism, dining, and entertainment,” said Stephanie Babineau, vice president of marketing for WHG, in a statement today.

Irina Gerchikov, vice president of hotel operations for WHG, added, “With its thoughtful design and strong neighbourhood ties, Arden will offer guests the best-in-class experience they’ve come to expect from Wentworth Hospitality. We’re proud to help shape the next era of hospitality in Vancouver.”

The project delivers a one-two punch by repurposing vacant, lower-grade office space that is difficult to lease due to its condition, while simultaneously helping to address Vancouver’s shortage of hotel rooms.

The building’s concrete facade design is an example of late-period brutalism architecture. The makeover for its new hotel uses is led by Cicozzi Architecture, which has designed exterior facade renovations that retain the “timeless character and workmanship” of the structure. Portico Design Group is responsible for the hotel’s interior design.

Amacon is also currently in the process of building its new “Block by Amacon” mixed-use condominium and hotel complex at 118-150 Robson St. — located at the intersection with Beatty Street, right next to the Terry Fox Plaza entrance into BC Place Stadium. This project notably preserves the site’s brick heritage building facade.

An application for a revised rezoning of the Block project in April 2025 seeks to increase the attached new hotel building’s height from six storeys to 10 storeys, which serves to add floor area density and relocate some of the hotel uses from the 30-storey condominium tower’s base podium to the new hotel building. This, in turn, enables more strata market ownership condominium homes and the inclusion of some secured purpose-built rental housing. There will now be 187 strata market ownership condominium homes, 138 hotel guest rooms, and six two-storey secured purpose-built rental homes — a change from the previous concept of 131 strata market ownership condominium homes and 120 hotel guest rooms.

On the ground level, activating the Robson Street frontage, there will still be a substantial restaurant, spanning about 9,200 sq. ft.

The Block’s hotel and restaurant are expected to be operated by WHG. The project is still at least a few years away from completion.
