Apple finally gives iOS users the Android feature they've been asking for

Monday marked the start of Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference 2020. To kick things off, the tech giant revealed many new updates to their flagship lineup of software. The biggest of all is the reveal of iOS 14 for iPhones, which finally includes home-screen app widgets for Apple users.

Yes, Android phone fans beware, Apple phones will soon have widgets to display extra information, controls, and updates live on the iPhone home screen.

Widgets aren’t a new thing in mobile computing. In fact, iOS fans have been pleading for this feature for years. Having the ability to see more and do more without having to launch apps is a big change for Apple.

So far, it looks like Apple is providing users with widgets for their proprietary apps like the Clock, Weather, Images, Fitness, Maps, iCal, and iTunes with iOS 14.

This morning’s presentation had a lot to go over, so the details on specific apps that will be providing users with widgets were minimal, but that hasn’t quelled the excitement.

Other notable additions to the iPhone operating system include the App Library page that displays all of your apps in segmented groups and lives at the end of your home screen pages.

Updates to messages and groups change the way you can chat in-line, an updated translate app allows for beautiful two-way conversations, tweaks to Siri, and picture-in-picture mode for videos and entertainment apps to continue showing your content while you browse and use your phone.
