"We're dead. Dead tired." Metro Vancouver brewery shares heartfelt goodbye

It’s no secret that this year has been challenging for the food and drink industry, and now another Metro Vancouver spot has announced it will be closing its doors.

Located in New Westminster, Another Beer Co. broke the unfortunate news that it would be closing.

“We’re dead. Dead tired,” said the brewery on an Instagram post. “But we’re happy. Happy you have shown us the love. Happy you’ve enjoyed the beers we poured our hearts and ‘beer nerdiness’ into. Happy we were able to relay to you the beers we wanted to drink, whether you wanted to drink it or not, but gosh darn it, you tried it because we made it.”

Another Beer Co. said that the reason for the closure was that it just seemed to be the right time to do it.

“This wasn’t a business decision because we don’t feel like we were ever a business but more of an experience,” added the brewery.

“What makes this tough is we know that owning a brewery isn’t really ‘us’ owning a brewery but more of us having a space for you, the community. So please know that this wasn’t an easy decision to make. We needed to do this for our families. As you may understand, it takes a lot and we loved doing this, but we believe there are a lot of new beer folks that deserve your attention, and we have run our course.”

For those unfamiliar, Another Beer Co. offers a variety of fun and unique beers like its Brain Candy IPA (an IPA that Another Beer Co says will make people remember their happiest memory with a flavour like a blueberry-raspberry hard candy treat), Tactical Turtleneck (oatmeal stout, brewed with Crisp pale malt, Simpsons Golden Naked Oats, flaked oats, chocolate malt, roasted barley, and coffee malt; Hopped with UK Fuggles; and conditioned on organic vanilla), and The Hardest Part of Making a Beer is Naming It (a dry, classic West Coast IPA loaded with Centennial, Simcoe, Mosaic and Citra hops).

While the brewery has announced its closure, there’s still plenty of time to visit before it closes — the whole summer, in fact.

“It feels like mourning, but we’re not dead yet, we’ve got a summer to celebrate and share some final projects with you including a farewell tour with our beer friends and some beers we want to revisit,” said the brewery.

Another Beer Co. will also host one final party on September 13 and a “break-up brunch” the following day, September 14.
