After heavy rains pelted the region yesterday, a popular passenger train service between Vancouver and Belllingham WA. has been halted over a mudslide on the tracks.
In a tweet, train operator Amtrak said that one of its trains from Bellingham to Vancouver was forced to return to Washington State because of the incident.
Amtrak Cascades Train 516 is currently returning to Bellingham (BEL) due to a mudslide blocking the tracks ahead. Alternate bus transportation will be provided for passengers between BEL and Vancouver, BC (VAC).

For those on the train, the company said alternate transportation in the form of bus service would be provided.
Hello Dave,
The mudslide is just north of Bellingham (BEL). No worries though we have a plan to bus our passengers in order to get them around the mudslide.— Amtrak Alerts (@AmtrakAlerts) January 4, 2019
Some reports have indicated that due to the slide, the passenger train service will be out of commission until Sunday, and Daily Hive has reached out to Amtrak for further information.
More to come…
