Canada to be without Alphonso Davies again for upcoming matches

Canadian soccer star Alphonso Davies may be back in the starting XI for German club Bayern Munich, but don’t expect to see him playing for his national team anytime soon.

The Canadian men’s national team has three friendly matches scheduled for the upcoming fall international window against Chile, Peru and the U.S. However, Davies apparently won’t be part of the squad.

According to OneSoccer’s Kristian Jack, Davies will not be included in Jesse Marsch’s squad for the upcoming matches, as he’s using the two-week international break to go on his honeymoon.

The 25-year-old footballer married his longtime partner, Sheyenne Jen, in late July just outside of Paris, only weeks after Canada’s historic run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup came to an end in the Round of 16.

Davies played just 16 minutes for Canada during the entirety of the home FIFA World Cup, missing all three group-stage matches, plus the final knockout-stage game, with a hamstring injury he suffered several weeks before the tournament.

The Canadian captain and his wife reportedly met in 2022 and got engaged on New Year’s Eve in December 2024 while vacationing in Dubai.

Jen, who performs under the stage name SheyJ, is a German singer and, according to her social media profile, is also finishing a degree in interior architecture.

The last time Davies played a full 90 minutes for Canada was during a Nations League match against Panama in October 2024.

Since returning from his World Cup injury, Davies has had a strong start to the 2026-27 season with Bayern, appearing in all six of the team’s matches so far. He also scored his first goal of the season in a Champions League group-stage win against Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt.

Canada’s three fall international friendlies will be the team’s first matches since the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The men will first face Chile at Toronto’s BMO Field on Sept. 26, followed by Peru in Montreal on Oct. 3, before heading on the road for a rivalry match against the U.S. on Oct. 6.

Canada’s full roster for the three upcoming friendly matches will be released on Sept. 15.
