An elderly Vancouver Island man was taken to hospital after being punched in the face and head during an alleged road rage incident.

According to North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, the assault occurred on October 9, 2019, just after 12 pm. The 85-year-old man was driving along Herd road toward Duncan when he was tailgated and then passed by a truck driver who “did not seem pleased with his rate of speed.”

The truck driver then pulled over in the 2500 block of Herd Road and victim — who was driving a red car — pulled up behind him.

Police say after a short conversation, the driver of the truck smashed the victim’s driver-side window and punched the senior repeatedly in the face and head.

The suspect then smashed the passenger side window and drove away in his truck. The victim suffered unknown injuries and was taken to local hospital for treatment.
The truck is described as:

  • Third-generation Dodge Ram extended cab
  • Short box
  • Silver
  • White canopy with tinted side glass and a tinted rear glass
  • Black or darker aftermarket rims
  • Rear bumper had an accent along the length of the top

“We are asking for the unknown driver of this truck to please come forward and speak with the police, said Sgt. Trevor Busch, Operations Support NCO, in a release. “This elderly man did not deserve to be treated this way.”

Police are asking for assistance from the public who may have been driving with a dash camera or witnessed this incident.
