Popular West Vancouver 7-Eleven closure marks the 'end of an era'

Just weeks after we reported that a popular Vancouver 7-Eleven location was closing, another one that has been around for a long time is biting the dust and turning off its Slurpee machines for good.

The Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association (BIA) posted about the closure online, revealing that the Ambleside location in West Van is closing on May 26, meaning you have one more weekend to have your convenience needs met.

Located at 1395 Marine Dr., the post from the BIA suggests that the location has served the community for decades and calls the closure the “end of an era.”

The BIA has notified followers of the nearest location to find a Slurpee.

Thank you to the staff and owners for being part of the neighbourhood for so many years. You can still find them at the Esso at 1503 Marine Drive,” it added.

Previously, we reported that the location at 33rd and Knight was closing. In response to that closure announcement, many shared their disappointment. It’s much the same in response to the Ambleside closure.

But they have 16 flavours of slurpees!! Noooo,” someone said.

Another resident who claims to have grown up in the area called the news devastating.

As teens we’d drive to that Sev instead of our NVan ones because of the flavours and perfect consistency,” they said.

Someone else was concerned with the state of business in the North Shore, saying, “The business closing virus is spreading. This is becoming much more often now on the North Shore.”

Several other locations across Metro Vancouver closed over the past two years, including one on Canada Way near Edmonds and another on Rumble Street.

We learned in 2024 that 7-Eleven had plans to shutter over 400 locations across North America; however, we couldn’t get confirmation on how many Canadian or Vancouver stores would be impacted by the decision to scale down. Earlier this year, some reports suggested that the chain plans on closing even more stores.

While this might be the end of an era for this particular location, for Slurpee lovers, hopefully, this doesn’t mean the writing is on the wall for the convenience store chain at large.
