Severe summer weather is coming.

Just in time for the August long weekend, The Weather Network is warning of a potential storm developing in Southern Ontario.

The weather is expected to take a dark and windy turn by Friday afternoon east of Lake Huron and around the 400N and Highway 11N. This comes on the heels of the storms we already had this week, which also included a tornado warning in southwestern Ontario, according to the Weather Network.

Speaking about highway 400N tomorrow meteorologist Tyler Hamilton adds, “We can’t rule out an isolated tornado, there’s a few ingredients, it’s not a perfect setup but we see the favourable atmospheric setup where we could see an isolated tornado Friday afternoon.”

There’s currently a severe thunderstorm watch in Barrie all the way to Windsor, with strong winds and hail expected in the region.

As for Toronto, Environment Canada forecasts a 40% chance of showers late this afternoon with risk of a thunderstorm. There’s also a risk of thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon, with winds gusting 20 km/h gusting and picking up to 40 km/h by Saturday morning.
