Toronto's beloved lawn games bar Track & Field is closing

It’s a sad day for Toronto’s bar scene.

Shortly after Parkdale’s Dumbo Snack Bar announced its upcoming closing, College and Ossington’s beloved lawn games bar Track & Field has done the same.

The popular hangout shared on Instagram that they’ll be out of their basement spot at 860 College on August 3.

Known for bocce, shuffleboard, and other feel-good outdoor games, the spot has long been a favourite for those looking for a more active night out.

The Instagram post’s caption cites the sale of the building as the reason behind the upcoming closure. But, while this news is devastating, you can self-soothe knowing that the spot will re-open elsewhere sometime in the future.

“Still, it’s hard to imagine Track & Field anywhere but here — this place has been our home for just-over-four years (feels more like a decade). The thing about a home, though, is that it’s not about the cinderblock walls or the concrete floor. It’s about the people,” the post reads.

There are still 11 weekends left for the hangout’s original location, which means you’d best be planning on some College and Ossington hangouts in the next few weeks.

“Whether you came by once for a wild Saturday night three years ago or you’ve been sitting at the bar every other night since April 2015 – thank you. Your support means everything to us. You are the reason we’re still here, and you are the reason we’ll be back,” the caption assures.

“From the bottom of this basement’s heart, thank you for the best just-over-four years of our lives.”
