This round-up spotlights the newest Toronto restaurant openings, bar openings, upcoming closings, and some special spots that should be on your radar.

Here’s what’s up in the city’s food scene right now.

Just Opened

  • Primrose Bagel is officially open, serving bagels, latkes and smoked fish at 317 Oakwood Avenue. Your weekend brunch decision just got easier.
  • The well-known and recently-shuttered McDonald’s location in Parkdale has relocated to Liberty Village, and is celebrating its grand opening Friday through Sunday.
  • Chick-fil-A opened its second location at Yorkdale Mall this week.
  • Mia Brunch Bar is soft open at 2140 Yonge Street.
  • Fishinn is now serving fish, chips, and more in Bloor West Village. Find them at 2392 Bloor Street West.
  • La Cantina Del Pueblo is now open at 671 College Street, offering up authentic Mexican grub.
  • Paris Paris Bar has officially brought us Nice Nice Wine, serving fine wine and fierce burgs from neighbour Extra Burger, 7 pm ’til last call, every night. The new spot has taken over 269 Dunn Avenue, which used to house Superpoint Express.

Opening Soon

  • Holt’s Café Bloor Street will celebrate its reopening on January 22.
  • Añejo is opening its first Toronto location at King and Portland very soon.
  • Plant-based restaurant Dalpak, by former Parallel chef Tomer Markovitz, is coming to 820 St. Clair West this spring.
  • Doors will open soon at Soma’s new 77 Brock Avenue location, and they’re hosting an open house this weekend with free hot chocolate! Saturday, from noon to 7 pm. Be there or be (a) square (of chocolate).
  • Osteria Giuleria is coming soon, from the behind l’Unita.

A hole-in-the-wall vibe with smash burgers and nice, nice wine? It doesn’t get much better than this. Serving eats from Extra Burger nightly from 7 pm ’til late, and offering a long list of fine wines to pair with your greasy hand-held, we can’t imagine a better spot for a Saturday night hangout.

Last Call

It’s coming up to closing time for these establishments. You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.

  • Tequila Bookworm has announced that after “27! (28?)” years on the strip, it’ll shutter in this month due to rent increase.
  • Brooklyn Tavern announced on Facebook that its last day of service will be January 25, after six years serving the Leslieville neighbourhood.
