21-year-old Markham man arrested for Toronto playground shooting

Toronto police have arrested a suspect in connection to last week’s playground shooting.

According to police, on Thursday, June 14, police responded to reports of a shooting in the McCowan Road and Alton Towers Circle area.

It is reported that a male had opened fire on another male who was in a small park, where 11 small children were playing at the time. Two girls, aged five and nine, were located with gunshot wounds.

On Friday, June 15, 21-year-old Sheldon Eriya of Markham, was arrested in Pickering and charged with discharge firearm, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, and possession of proceeds of crime.

Police have released a photo of Eriya and said there are still two outstanding male suspects.
